FRS Repeat next Sunday

Dear FRS Friends,

Sunday Febryuary March 7th
Following last week's 7600//5800 broadcast, FRS-Holland will again take to the airwaves next Sunday March 7th. It will be a full repeat lasting fromt 10.52- 15.05 UTC/ 11.52- 16.05 CET. Freqs will be 7600//9300 kHz. We are very interested in reports for both freqs!

FRS 30 years
2010 is a very special year for all at FRSH: 30 years on the air!  We will be celebrating this later in 2010, presumably in October. It is our wish to receive as many personal memories as possible (especially) from dedicated FRS listeners! Most personal is when you record a 1- 2 minute recording (English or German) with your very own memories: When did you hear us for the first time, what was (is) your favourite show, when did you get your first QSL, how much did you listen to FRS, any special on air moments you remember? All this info will be part of your personal FRS contribution.  Any serious contribution will be rewarded later this year. That is a promise! All listener's contributions will be collected and together it will be our anthology of 30 years of SW broadcasts along with our very own memories. Btw: if you cannot record a message, please put your contribution on paper (POBox 2702) or send us a mail . It sounds a bit weird but w'd like to receive your contribution as soon as possible. There's a lot to prepare and having contributions at an early stage really helps… we count on you…an mp3 would be easy, isn't it?

73s, Peter V. (on behalf of the FRS staff)

FRS-Holland Ringing Out 2009

FRS-Holland will again take to the airwaves over the X-Mas Holiday Season. December 27th FRS-Holland will be heard with a 5 hour broadcast starting at 07.52 UTC. Close down is at 13.00 UTC. Opposite to earlier reports FRS-Holland can be heard on 7685//5800 kHz. At 13.00 UTC all pxs will be repaeted on 7685//9300 kHz up till 18.08 UTC. The 9300 transmitter which replaces 5800 will be on air at approx. 13.20 UTC enabling our engineer to necessarily adjust the low-powered transmitter. Due to an Arab station using 7600 kHz in the afternoon, we have decided to use 7685 all day. During our October tests 7675 proved to be as good as 7600. If you have a blog or news site on the internet, please spread the details about our upcoming broadcast !

Pxs will be presented by Jan van Dijk doing the German show. Dave Scott will be playing classic rock and has a few interesting radio related items. Hopefully Paul Graham will be hosting another classic FRS Golden Show playing great 60s/ 70s stuff as well as a feature on a landbased pirate radio station from years gone by. Peter Verbruggen will look back to what happened in the past on December 27th (Day Calendar) en plays a mix of 80s/90s/00s records in FRS Magazine. He will also host a 45 min.

FRS Goes DX edition with the latest news from the wonderful world of wireless .
Mike Anderson's DX Welle will feature a mix of DX News and music.
During the pxs we will read out November mail and New Year's Greetings.
There also is the Phrase that Pays'. Pxs will most likely commence at 07.52 UTC/ 08.52 CET.
From all of us at FRS-Holland a very Merry XMas & a healthy, prosperous 2010.
FRS will be back in 2010 celebrating 30 years of SW transmissions.

73s, Peter V. (on behalf of the FRS staff)

Pirate Radio, the movie

Pirate Radio, the movie, is due to be released November 13th. Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, it is described online thus: "In the 1960s a group of 8 rogue DJs on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic, played rock records and broke the law all for the love of music. The songs they played united and defined an entire generation and drove the British government crazy. By playing rock 'n roll they were standing up against the British government who did everything in their power to shut them down."

As they say, "check your local listings".

More FRS tests next Sunday

Dear FRS Friends,

New tests upcoming Sunday
Last week we announced tests within 39 metres for Sunday October 4th and 11th. Last Sunday the first tests went out on 7600 kHz (08.00-10.00/ 12.00-13.00 UTC) ánd on 7685 kHz (13.00-14.00 UTC). Response was overwhelming with so far approx. 50 reports sent by eMail. These reports came from some 16 countries within and outside Europe including the USA, Canada & Chile (South America).
Next series of tests on 39 metres will be radiated upcoming Sunday October 11th; FRS-Holland will be carrying out tests on 7600 kHz and 7685 kHz. 7685 replaces 7635 which had to be cancelled last Sunday. 7635 won't be use and is replaced by 7685 kHz.
This Sunday will see 4 hour of tests in two blocks of two hours: 08.00-10.00 UTC and a repeat between 12.00-14.00 UTC.
During each 2 hour morning block we will use two different frequencies: 7600 (08.00-09.00 + 12.00-13.00) and 7685 (09.00-10.00 + 13.00-14.00 UTC).Peter V. will be reading out some of the mail FRS received so far.
Of course we remain understandably curious about reception on each frequency. What is the best frequency choice, is there much difference between 7600 and 7685, is there much difference in reception between the morning and afternoon hours? Questions on which we would like to have your answer.
Propagation conditions could differ from last Sunday, that makes things extra interesting.
If you have sent a reception report for last Sunday's tests, please write in again. You can compare both Sundays as far as propagation is concerned telling us what Sunday was the best.
We'd love to hear from you, either by mail or via POBox 2702, 6049 ZG Herten, the Netherlands. A nice QSL card is waiting for you.
Keep an eye on 7600 kHz and 7685 kHz.

Looking back to Sunday October 4th Once again, we are very pleased with the reports we got so far. We haven't looked yet in our POBox but most likely we will receive a bunch of letters. Thanks to all who responded on last Sunday's tests!
Unfortunately we were not able to test on 7635 although it was announced. Instead we tested on 7685 during the final hour between 13.00-14.00 UTC.
Conditions last Sunday weren't as good as the previous week but still satisfactory. There was more noise, fading an cracks. Reception varied from poor to very good. And: reception in southern regions was better compared with northern. For instance in North Germany and Southern Scandinavia reception was fair at its best while in France, Southern Britain and Southern Germany reception was good (at least: in many cases). This could be result of the direction in which the inverted V (almost horizontal) dipole antenna is hanging. We cannot rotate the antenna that much, at the most approx. 35 degrees.
But also on one and the same reception location reception varied. The first 15 min. were ruled by a high amount of noise but at approx. 08.15 UTC the signal became significantly better because of a decreasing noise level. Between 09.00-09.40 UTC the signal was less strong but towards 10.00 signal strength was peaking. Especially in the afternoon there was much difference in reception quality among the various reception locations.
All in all we are quite satisfied with the results. If propagation remains the same or becomes even a bit better, we hope to achieve at least the same results as last Sunday. Let's wat and see...

FRS News #34 out now

More news in the upcoming weeks. WE will certainly keep you up-to-date with FRS-Holland developments.

Spaceshuttle (Discovery) on air!

Quite promising openings on both 48 and 31 mb yesterday (not so many listeners but nice distances) So again this evening, startingtime on 31 mb 9290 kHz AM-mode 13 utc and on untill around 16:30 utc.

48 mb mostly same timeschedule, but hopefully some tries also later during the evening.... Frequency on 48 mb quite open, perhaps 6210 kHz ... Might test both AM and USB-mode here.

Tip, 31 mb might work best during earlier hours, so do not start too late...

Radio Amica
